Family Photography in Salt Lake City, What Does a Full Portrait Experience Actually Cost?

One of the first questions most families have is simple.

How much will this cost?

The answer depends on what you are actually looking for.

There is a big difference between paying someone to take a few pictures and investing in a complete family portrait experience.

The Session Fee

At Smyer Image, the standard family portrait session is $525.

That covers the photography experience itself, including planning and the portrait session.

There is also an extended session option for families who want more time.

But the session fee is only one part of the experience.

What Happens After the Session

This is where Smyer Image is different.

I don't send you a gallery and leave you to decide what to do with hundreds of digital files.

Your photographs are curated and presented during an in-home reveal.

You receive a set of 4x6 prints that you can hold and experience.

Then I project your photographs onto your actual walls so you can see what they look like at real size.

You don't have to imagine what a finished portrait might look like in your home.

You can see it.

Artwork Is a Separate Decision

If you decide you want portraits for your walls, we can create them as custom artwork.

That might be a canvas.

It might be a framed portrait.

It might be an heirloom album.

The right choice depends on your home and what you want to preserve.

Most families who choose artwork invest somewhere between $500 and $2,000.

There is no requirement to purchase artwork.

The reveal is designed to help you make the decision, not pressure you into one.

Why Prices Vary

Two photographers can charge similar session fees and provide completely different experiences.

One might give you a short session and a digital gallery.

Another might spend more time planning, photographing, revealing and designing finished artwork with you.

So when comparing photographers, look at the entire experience.

Ask what happens before the session.

Ask what happens afterward.

Ask how many decisions you will have to make on your own.

And ask what you actually receive when everything is finished.

What Are You Really Investing In?

Family photography is not just about the hour or two spent taking pictures.

You are investing in the experience of creating the photographs.

You are investing in professional guidance.

And if you choose artwork, you are investing in something your family will see every day.

That is why I don't think the cheapest session is necessarily the best value.

The better question is whether the experience gives you something you will actually use and enjoy.

A Different Way to Think About Family Photography

You can spend $100 on a mini session and leave with a handful of digital images.

You can also invest considerably more in a portrait experience designed around your family, your home and the finished photographs.

Neither is automatically right or wrong.

They are simply different things.

Smyer Image is for families who want more than another folder of photographs.

The goal is to create portraits that have a place in your life.

Your family deserves to live on your walls, not in your phone.
