How Much Do Family Photos Cost in Salt Lake City?

Most photographers don't publish their prices. You fill out a contact form, wait for a response, and get on a call before anyone mentions a number. That's not how I work.

Here's exactly what a family portrait session costs at Smyer Image, and what you get for it.

The session fee: $525

This covers everything that happens before you decide to buy anything. The planning call, the session itself, a printed keepsake box of 4x6 photographs that's yours no matter what, and the in-home reveal where I come to your house and project your portraits onto your own walls at real size.

That's not a deposit. It's the experience itself.

The artwork: $500 to $2,000 for most families

Artwork is chosen at the reveal, after you've seen your images projected on your actual walls. You see exactly what a piece looks like above your couch, at real size, before you decide anything.

Most families invest between $500 and $2,000 in their collection. Some go further, some do less. There's no minimum, and nothing is decided before you've seen what your family looks like as art in your home.

What the artwork actually is

Canvas wraps. Framed pieces. Heirloom albums with thick matte pages and a suede cover. A small accordion book you can keep in a bag. Every piece is designed around your home at the reveal, not picked from a catalog online.

Digital files come with the artwork you order. I don't sell them separately. The whole point is portraits that live on your walls and in your hands.

What you're not paying for

You're not paying for a rushed hour and a Dropbox link. You're not paying for a generic package that could fit any family. You're paying for a session designed around your family, photographed in the best light of the day, and finished with an experience in your home that most families say they didn't expect.

Is it worth it?

That's the wrong question, and I say that kindly. The right question is whether you want family photos that end up on your walls or family photos that end up on your phone. If it's the walls, let's talk.
