If you told me you wanted to spend about $1,500 on family photography, I wouldn't start by talking about how many digital files you get.

The session is only the beginning

At Smyer Image, the session fee is $525.

That covers the photography experience itself, including the planning that happens before we ever meet with a camera.

But the finished experience doesn't end when I pack up my equipment.

That's where the rest of the investment comes in.

First, we plan the photographs around your family

Before the session, we talk about your family, what you want from the photographs, where you're comfortable being photographed, and how you want the finished portraits to fit into your home.

I'm not just looking for a pretty location.

I'm thinking about the photographs before I take them.

That matters because the goal isn't to come home with hundreds of images and figure out what to do with them later.

The goal is to create a small collection of photographs that actually mean something to you.

Then we have the session

The session itself is relaxed.

We move.

We interact.

We let the kids be kids.

There are photographs where everyone is looking at the camera, but there are also photographs that happen because nobody was thinking about the camera at all.

I'm looking for both.

The photographs should look like your family, not like you successfully followed a posing checklist.

Then something different happens

This is where the Smyer Image experience changes.

I don't send you a gallery link and tell you to figure out what you want.

I curate the photographs first.

Then I bring them to your home.

You receive a set of 4x6 prints that you can actually hold in your hands.

I project your favorite portraits onto your actual walls at their finished size.

There is no requirement to purchase wall art after your session.

If there is something you want to live with, we can design it together.

A $1,500 experience might result in one beautiful statement portrait.

It might become several pieces throughout the home.

The exact combination is up to you.

The important part is that you're not buying artwork before you know what you love.

You see the photographs first.

Then you decide.

The question isn't really "What do I get?"

That's usually the question people ask when they're comparing photographers.

How many images?

How many hours?

Are digital files included?

What size prints?

But I think there's a better question.
